My students are very special students. They are students that have an intellectual disability. This ranges from autism with behaviors to Downs Syndrome to those students that are just intellectually low. We also have a few students who are visually impaired.
We have been given a room to use as a sensory room for our students with special needs.
It will also help students who are mainstreamed that need a place to use to calm down or to prevent the students from exploding.
I am asking for items to put in the sensory room to help not just my students in a self contained classroom but those students who need a space outside my classroom.
My Project
My students (in a self contained classroom) and other students in the general education setting have tons of sensory needs. I have the opportunity to create an environment to help settle students who may be overstimulated in the classroom
Sensory needs range from pressure, to light, to swinging or jumping.
It is a release for students in a self contained classroom and the few students in the general education setting that have the sensory needs.
Students will be allowed to pick what works best for them individually to help them release the build up of emotion before the emotion releases in forms of them being physical or verbal towards others.
