Sensory Room for Sensory Seekers

Help me give my students a sensory space, with a multicolor touch lights lamp, rainbow set of massage game mats, a body sock, and more, to self regulate and be able to feel safe.

My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds and all have different amazing abilities. The students I work with have special needs. We use a variety of methods to work and learn in ways that will best meet the needs of each student.

With the wide variety of abilities and needs in my class have including academic, behavioral, emotional, and sensory seeking there are unique challenges and needs that can be difficult to meet without additional creativity and support.

My students love to use hands-on and engaging materials to further their learning and help them make the learning progress we are striving for. Some of the most motivating things for my students would be technology and things they can interact with. This is how they learn best and how I can make connections that create a deeper understanding and level of attainment.

My Project

With the added challenges of this current school year we are having many students who are having difficulty in regulating their feelings and emotions. We are working to create a sensory room where they can go for a soothing and safe place to have their regulatory needs met. With different lighting options, a sensory sack they can curl up in, and sensory tiles for the flooring, the students will have a place to calm down when things feel overwhelming. With multiple classes that would benefit from the use of this room we are trying really hard to get access to these supplies.
