Sensory Room for Self Regulation

Help me give my students furniture for a calming sensory room where they can go when feeling anxious or overwhelmed in order to help them self regulate so that they can return to class ready to work.

My Project

I work with elementary age special education students who aren't always able to regulate their emotions. When feeling frustrated, anxious or overwhelmed they need help in order to regulate their emotions. This sensory space will allow them a place to go that is soothing and assists them in regulating.

Our goal is to provide this sensory space to our children with disabilities, to help them regulate, and then return to class in better space so that they can learn and produce quality work.

Our students are capable learners that struggle in the classroom due to their emotions being too big for them to handle independently. The beanbag chairs will allow students to relax in comfortable chairs, the fidgets allow students to refocus their attention, the wrapping paper will help cover the bulletin boards for a more aesthetic look, the paintings will give students a focus to look at the light covers will cover the harsh lighting, the ottoman will give students a place to put their items, the curtains will allow for the room to blackout so that the star projector can be seen. The sand scape is soothing to watch. All of these items will help students regulate when dysregulated.
