Sensory Room at Lenart RGC

Help me give my students a sensory experience for twice exceptional learners whose SEL needs can often be overshadowed by their academic needs. Help me remind them that every aspect of them deserves to be nutured.

My Project

The materials selected are intentionally used for students with twice exceptional identities in the gifted program at my school. Throughout the school day, there can be sensory stimulating events or moments that can shift the trajectory of a student's day.

By providing a resource for students that begins with coregulation and gradually transitions to independent self-regulation, we will see a huge shift in how students are able to regulate themselves when overwhelmed, have a safe place in the school setting, and model school-appropriate coping strategies for peers to practice.

Oftentimes, when students are dysregulated, it can be hard to find a single person or space to regulate accordingly. By funding this project, you will help with creating sensory sites throughout the school building for all students to access, empower students to independently use learned skills to engage in sensory-based regulation practices, and remind students that their social and emotional needs are just as important as their academic needs. By creating a robust sensory experience for our students, we will provide them with ample opportunities to develop their SEL skills in an adaptive manner that can be supported consistently.
