Within the last two and a half years, my school has developed a program for students with behavioral and emotional issues. We have five classrooms, each with a 6:1:2 ratio, ranging from grades one through twelve.
Many of the students that have come to this program came from homebound instruction and our goal is to provide them with tools that are necessary to eventually be able to return to their regular school districts.
Our program has come a long way since it began in 2016, and we are excited to watch as it continues to grow!
Legos will be a great resource to use in our classroom, as many of my students have sensory needs. Our school has provided us with a very cool Lego and sand table, but we do not have the funds to order Legos at this point in the school year. We have been borrowing Legos from other teachers, but would really love to have a set of our own. Building with STEM materials, such as Legos, helps our students to focus and calms them. It also sharpens their hand-eye coordination, and allows them to create their own masterpieces in fun and exciting ways!
