Help me give my students the equipment to help them with their sensory processing disorders to increase their ability to maintain focus during their school day.
I work with students that require occupational therapy (OT) for a wide range of needs. I provide assistance with fine motor skills for handwriting and typing, balance and coordination, sensory processing, ADLs (toileting and dressing), self-feeding, hygiene, adaptations and modifications for academic tasks, seating and mobility, and ergonomics for students ages 11-16.
My Project
These items, bouncy bands, tree chair, resistance bands, and more will help my students in the middle school increase their ability to sit and attend to their classroom curriculums. Students require movement throughout their day as they transition from class to class, seat to seat. Without the movement required to maintain attention and focus on their classroom tasks, behaviours are interpreted as challenging, interruptive and disorganized in the classroom settings. Research has proven that movement, proprioceptive and vestibular movement is vital for children with sensory processing disorders and ADHD. These items will be used by many students in this particular school setting.
