The students that I serve are incredibly special. The materials gathered in this project will be used to create a Sensory-Playground in our classroom. Each child learns and processes new information differently. My student's sensory processing skills are a tool that they are still mastering.
Creating an environment that is physically, mentally, and visually stimulating for my students will help to increase their internal sensory-processing skills.
We have a pulley-system in our classroom that we use every single day. I change out the attachment periodically depending on the unit/theme that we are covering, but the crowd-favorite is a hula-hoop with balloons attached using fishing line. With the materials gathered in this project, I hope to create more attachments, specifically attachments for my students who are visually-impaired to enjoy.
The bubble-lamp and projector light will be used in the darkest corner of my room during sensory time. The tulle and ribbon will be attached to hula-hoop pulley attachment to create a rainbow tunnel. My students have taken great interest in engaging with different tactile input and visually stimulating materials so I cannot wait to see their faces whenever they get to play with our new attachments!
