When I look at my students, I don't think of them as having disabilities. I see them as having exceptionalities. They are exceptional at making people smile, at never giving up, and at taking risks. They are also exceptionally in tune with their senses.
My kindergarten students feel, see, and hear with exceptional ability to the point that it gets in the way of learning.
Many of them exhibit sensory over-responsivity becoming easily distracted by the tiniest of noises or visual clutter.
With this room divider, we will be able to create a place in the classroom that is just for them. It can be a place free of visual clutter set away from the noise of the larger group. The divider will help to create this space. By creating an environment that takes their needs into account, we will be able to create an environment that is more conducive to learning. With that, our students will be better set up to succeed.
