Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is in the inner city and the majority of the students come from low-income families that qualify for free meal plans. We have come back to school to do in person learning and we are currently adjusting and understand what we need to help students become successful.
My students are hardworking students who persevere despite any challenges they are faced with at school or in their personal lives.
I love how my students are resilient and love participating in my class. A normal day in my class would be students collaborating with each other, explaining to each other strategies in math, and having sophisticated debates about science claims.
My Project
When students get too stressed out, my only option in my class right now is to have them take a de-stressing walk in the hallway or just put their heads down.
My students and I would love a calm corner in the classroom where they can go de-stress with different sensory resources and reflection books.
When emotions are heightened, it is more likely that students will act on their impulses and get in trouble. However, with the calm corner, students will be able to choose to go de-stress and reflect on their emotions and mood. The saucer chairs will be a comfortable flexible seating where they can sit to reflect on their mood and feelings.
