This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) classroom services children ages 3- 5 that range from a variety of disabilities. We work on our communication, cognitive, social/ emotional and daily living skills. My students learn to become more independent and help in their own self care. My students learn through a variety of different means; from social stories to songs and videos and pretend play. We range from ages 3, 4 (PreK), and 5 (K). Because of our different age ranges and abilities we have to become very creative when learning new themes and topics.
My Project
The white board markers help my students who are learning beginning academic skills. The students use white boards and the markers to practice writing their name, numbers, letter and draw shapes.
The cube chairs and weighted blanket, lap pads, neck pads, and noise canceling earmuffs will help my students with sensory needs to feel grounded and more in-control of their surroundings.
The weighted blanket, lap pads and neck pads will help support the children by producing a calming effect. They will help reduce the anxiety that often accompanies a sensory processing disorder. The chairs will help them understand their boundaries and personal space when learning. The noise canceling headphones will help my students who struggle with sensory/ noise overload. They will be able to listen to instruction without becoming overloaded by other noises/ distractions.
The microwave is to help support my students who have specific feeding needs and need their food heated up to eat. Having a microwave in the classroom helps support the students grow in their feeding needs. The students can practice using the microwave and heating their own food, to support independence in their life skill needs.
