We teach middle school aged students with a variety of intellectual, physical and sensory needs. We use a functional curriculum which allows the students to learn life skills while still working on core subjects. They are mostly focusing on job and life skills they can use after completing high school. We help to allow the students to work towards their personal goals for independence.
The students work throughout the day to gain work experience while still learning functional skills.
We do recycling for the entire school, perform chores in the classroom daily and clean the cafeteria after lunch. Our students work on cooking, cleaning, job applications, money and time skills.
My Project
These materials will give our students the opportunity to have a safe and relaxing space. The abundance of supplies will allow our sensory room to feel more welcoming.
This will provide our students with the chance to have a place where they can take a relaxing brain break and address sensory needs.
Our students love the creativity, relaxation, and enjoyment that they get out of using the kinetic sand. The bean bag and stress toys will allow for students to just chill out and be comfortable! The light covers will reduce the harshness on our student's eyes and allow for a more enjoyable view. We are looking to increase our student's comfort and creativity while still addressing sensory needs when necessary!
