Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have students who are severely disabled and need visual and tactile experiences to learn.
My students are an amazing group of students housed in a Life Skills Unit.
We are avid participants in Special Olympics and Community Based Instruction. We depend on hands-on activities for learning due to their disabilities. They are unique individuals and I am fortunate to know them.
My Project
Having this amazing, interactive, bubble-tube would be a sensory dream-come-true to any Life Skills teacher. This is specific to individuals with extreme needs. It can calm behaviors and teach turn taking. Its' educational uses include cause and effect, color recognition, making choices, and learning switch skills. My students use switches during their instruction. The vibrations give them tactile sensation and be controlled with the switch. The size and look of this bubble tube would be "Empowering Students Through Art." Students with severe impairments have very limited motor skills and could enjoy the visual colors of the bubbles and see the images reflected in the mirrors.
This interactive, bubble-tube would improve my classroom because this is such an advanced piece of equipment geared for students with severe needs.
It is made for portable use and is designed to fit in corners. It also has two corner mirrors to give the illusion of three bubble-tubes. It would be amazing addition in our classroom and benefit the students with the hardest needs to meet.
