This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
MFIS is a public school within the Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) district that provides a language immersion experience for students K4-5th grade. The staff and students at MFIS are diverse in culture, countries of origin, race, language, and socio-economic status. Low-income students of color make up the majority of the population at MFIS and the Milwaukee community.
My Project
This project will fund a supply of sensory tools that can be used by all students at MFIS. Fidget tools will be distributed to students to assist with paying attention during learning and to help with self-regulation. Having the ability to fidget with objects that do not pull attention away from the lesson can assist some students in increasing their concentration.
Sensory tools can provide external sensory input for students to focus on during times of dysregulation.
These tools will also be used to block external sensory that may be overwhelming to some children.
