My goal, as a teacher, is to provide the best learning environment for my students. My school is very supportive in all that I do, but does not have the funds to get new supplies for the students. These students, who come from a high-poverty area, come to school to learn new things and have experiences that they might not be able to at home.
I work with 3rd, 4th- and 5th-grade students with emotional disabilities.
I am so fortunate to have such a great group of students. Although my students face their own challenges everyday, they never fail to try their best in any situation.
My Project
My students will benefit so much from having items to help them with their sensory processing. My students that have emotional disabilities often times will go into crisis when they don’t know how to regulate their bodies or emotional needs. By giving my students flexible seating options, my students will be able to move around, creating a sense of necessary balance so they can focus on learning and making the right choices. My students will also benefit from using the slime and sand to take sensory breaks when they are still having difficulties paying attention. My goal for my students is to make an inviting learning environment for all of the types of learners in my classroom.
