Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
There is one thing I have learned in the 12 years I have taught Functional Skills, and that is, you can never have too many sensory objects for the students to engage with. It is a crucial part of their social and emotional development.
I want my students to experience it all and have all of the best supplies.
This project is asking for science supplies, related to magnets, since this is something my students have been learning about and showing interest in. There are also some sensory items in there such as: the "Pea Pod", which is something that is really important to my students. The deep pressure is calming, providing sensory input to those who benefit from it. The "tunnel" provides a way for the students to develop gross motor skills and engage with peers.
