My Project
Hi there! My name is Christine Weston, and I am the Occupational Therapist at an elementary school (I am using Ms. Hahns' Donorschoose account with her permission). With the help of our Physical Therapist Mr. Santos, and our first grade ICT teachers, Ms. Hahn and Ms. Shaw, we would like to create sensory motor pathways to help all of the children with our school identify and fulfill their daily sensory and social emotional needs.
There have been many changes and challenges that our students have faced since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now more than ever, many students are craving more movement throughout their day, and can benefit from having additional support to help them regulate their energy level and navigate their feelings. Various studies show that engaging in sensory based physical activity can support learning, increase attention, foster positive emotions, and promote effective communication skills.
Please help us to provide our students with a safe and engaging sensory pathway in our main hallway. This placement would help to support students with transitioning into the building, to/from their specialty classes, and allow classes and individual students (with permission and supervision) to use the pathway to throughout their day.
