Sensory Materials to Promote Learning and Self Regulation

My students need sensory materials such as a Rody horse, weighted vest and blanket, sensory brush, and a diffuser to help fulfill their sensory needs.

My Students

Students in my classroom are military dependents and local residents of Honolulu, Hawaii. My class consists of a very diverse population. Furthermore, our school has a transient population due to the students with parents in the military.

My students are fun, loving preschool-aged special education students.

Students have different disabilities such as autism, speech delay, and developmental delay but they are eager, bright, and love to learn about everything! I hope to make their first experiences in school fun and engaging!

My Project

The materials requested will allow me to incorporate a meaningful sensory diet for my students with difficult with sensory issues. The weighted vest and blanket will provide deep tissue pressure to students who are easily distracted. The foot band will assist students in calming when they are seated in a chair. The Rody horse will provide students with the ability jump and balance providing important proprioceptive or vestibular input. Last, the diffuser can help in providing students with calming scents or scents to "wake up" their sensory systems.

My students can learn and self regulate if they have sensory materials to fulfil their sensory needs.
