Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My moderate/severe special education classroom is an extremely diverse group of learners with a large range of different needs. All of my students are of low socioeconomic status, but they are motivated and driven.
My students love coming to school each and every day and are learning the necessary skills to be successful in the years to come.
My students require a variety of individualization to meet all of their diverse needs. They best learn from a variety of modalities and repetition. My students require a large amount of small group and 1:1 instruction in order to be successful in the classroom.
My Project
My project will help bring a variety of sensory materials to my classroom. Students with autism benefit greatly from having a variety of materials accessible to meet their sensory needs. These materials are essential to student learning and engagement and will be extremely helpful as I set up my new classroom.
These materials will be used to help students reach their full potential in the classroom by keeping them calm, focused and engaged.
The students will have access to these material at all times, for breaks when they need quiet time, while transitioning, as well as for when they need something to keep their hands quiet so that they can receive the full benefit of the lessons being taught. It is essential for the students to have access to this variety of materials and this will be a great help as I start my new classroom.
