My Students
I have 6 students in my class, 3 girls and 3 boys, who are all diagnosed with Autism. They each have different and unique sensory needs to help them function throughout the school day.
My students attend a special education school for students with Autism in New York City.
They all come from challenging backgrounds and thrive in a smaller school setting. My students are all unique and special in their own way. Three of them communicate verbally and 3 communicate through the usage of picture symbols. The usage of materials that they can all use together is important for socialization together, because social awareness is challenging for children with Autism. They are all bright, happy children who come to school with smiles on their faces.
My Project
With these resources, I can provide my students with the sensory input they need to regulate themselves and feel comfortable in the classroom. We will be able to learn through art and they can feel the paint that I have asked for, but sometimes it can get messy so that is why I asked for the non-spill cups to go with the paint. They love to do hands on projects that keep them interested and motivated. I have asked for balls for sensory input because my students love squeezing and feeling different balls. Another item that I asked for were larger balls for my students to sit and bounce on because it helps them to focus while at the table.
My students will appreciate and benefit from all of the materials that I am asking for.
I cannot wait to see their smiles and share them with each and everyone of you. There are not enough words to express my gratitude for your time and effort with helping me to do the best job I can with my students!
