This year, I am going into my third year of teaching. I teach third through fifth grade in a Special Education classroom. My students learn in a Title I school near a military base. Many of our students have experienced some type of family transition (single-parent home, blended family, divorce/separation, low income, etc.). The majority of students in the classroom have a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum as well as Multiple Disabilities, severe-mild intellectual disabilities, vision impairments, medically fragile, and physical impairments.. Each item requested is requested with a specific student in mind.
My Project
My students learn using different modalities, like tactile. These products will help them be able to learn in different ways. My students often have sensory issues. Someone with sensory issues interprets sensory messages to the brain and body with challenges. They may respond differently to that sensory input because their senses receives the messages differently compared to someone that does not have sensory processing issues. These products encourage active play, creativity, and fun for our students in the Sensory Area. The resources we are requesting include sensory play materials and sensory learning materials.
