Year after year, I'm blessed and lucky enough to teach and spend my day with the sweetest kiddos alive. I teach in a high-poverty, low socioeconomic community in southern Mississippi. Our teachers are the best and the kiddos are just so awesome.
Each day, my students step off the bus ready and so excited to learn.
In my classroom, I try to make learning as fun as possible, but we do not always have the supplies and materials that we need to succeed.
My Project
This project is all about meeting the needs of my visual and tactile learners as well as my students with dyslexia!
Studies show that when you involve the senses, the child will better retain the information.
For this project we are requesting a set of alphabet arcs and magnetic letters. We will use these materials in small groups to build our skills in spelling and phonological awareness. Alphabet arcs are the perfect hands-on tool for visual and tactile learners who struggle with spelling and phonics. These visual tools will allow my firsties to see and touch the alphabet letters. This will help imprint in the brain our weekly spelling and phonics skills which will in turn, build strong readers and writers! Imagine how much fun they will have building their spelling words and reading the words they create with these colorful and engaging resources. We are also requesting a set of 10 project containers to hold sand for tracing our letters, as well as two sets of Didax tactile letter cards.
I am eager to add these tools into our classroom. I know they will be the perfect resources to help my students who suffer from dyslexia as well.
