My students need fidget "toys" and other sensory related items that they can use while the teacher is teaching so they can concentrate and focus on learning during lessons.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are second graders living in the projects of New York City. A day in the life of my ICT students involves them teaching each other and working together. I, as their teacher, want to do my very best to make their year in second grade their most successful yet.
They come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and mostly Spanish speaking or bilingual homes.
They come to school eager to learn and explore new things. They love experiencing new texts and authors during interactive read-alouds, engaged in math activities and centers and other engaging lessons throughout the day!
My Project
We teach a bunch of amazing second grade students who have a variety of learning needs. Many students become fidgety and distracted during group lessons. Having sensory items will allow them to sit quietly on the carpet using a fidget ball, squeeze tube, small bin of kinetic sand and other materials while actively participating in the class lesson.
With the help of the sensory items, students will also be able take a quick five minute break.
After the break they will be able to return to the lesson or activity ready to learn and participate without being fidgety and squirming around.
