I work in a classroom with 6 students who are on the Autism Spectrum. The majority of my students are non-verbal and need special devices or tools to communicate their wants and needs. My students enjoy sensory stimulation like sensory balls, spinning, rocking, playing with different textures, and cause and effect toys.
My students enjoy cooking activities, playing outdoors, going on trips, and big hugs from the amazing staff they work with each day.
Providing tools for them to use each day helps for them to strive and become more independent.
My Project
Students thrive when they are given the right tools to help them. Sensory toys and objects to help create a more functional classroom, like colored folders My students need sensory toys to help them be more comfortable in various situations. Giving items that give sensory input, such as a whole body hug, can help my students feel safe and help them function.
Having sensory toys, such as the gamer chair and lights, can help my students work, be calm, and be more confident.
In order for children to feel well, they must feel comfortable in their own skin; sensory toys and activities can help provide that specific attention.
