My Project
One of the reasons I love teaching at the New School of San Francisco is because we are diverse by design. Sensory integration and regulation are one of the many diverse needs we strive to meet in our community. From small fidgets to help students focus, to lap pads that provide calming pressure and even to wobble chairs that engage students' core enabling them to sit up and focus.
Sensory tools promote regulation, improve focus, and increase participation.
They do this by helping minimize stimuli such as ear mufflers for excess noise or offer a non-disruptive outlet for sensory seeking students like using a wobble cushion or chair. These tools will be available to students and will be used for future middle schoolers!
