My students are full of energy and are ready to explore their world. However, my students have a hard time understanding the world around them.
My students are diagnosed on the autism spectrum and most are low functioning.
Due to my students' disabilities, they face many obstacles daily, including communicating, daily life skills, understanding the world around them, and dealing with why things change.
My students are all currently isolated at home. Most do not go outside due to not having backyards. Since they are isolated at home, my students engage in online tasks for academic instruction which includes Google Classroom, Boom learning cards and watching videos. My students attend school for twelve months due to their disability and with schools most likely closed into the fall, my students will be doing this for July and August too.
My Project
Not being able to be in school doesn't just affect the academics of my students, but also their therapy sessions. I am requesting materials for my student to help him be able to have items to use to help him during physical therapy, occupational therapy, as well as to help him attend to academics at home.
Learning at home without materials is hard.
My student needs a calm down area at home with a soft, inviting place to sit. That is why I am requesting a beanbag chair. My student needs to be able to get his energy out and sensory input that a bouncing ball and a trampoline could provide for him. The sensory discs will help give my student sensory input that he seeks. The ball chair will help my student attend to his academic work at home by giving him sensory input to help him remain on task.
Losing therapy sessions in schools is a huge issue for my students. I am hoping by being able to provide sensory materials for my student, he will be able to get a little bit of school at home.
