Help me give my students the opportunity to continue our school garden with an outdoor shed to store all the rakes, shovels, and items need to build a sensory garden. All the herb seeds will be planted outdoors.
Our elementary is composed of students from all socioeconomic status and family dynamics. We have a 75%-80% free or reduced-price lunch population. Ours is a public school in a high risk school district. Our school is located in the middle of city, servicing a diverse population, with students of all ethnicities and languages. Our students are supported with real world applications that extend from our classroom into every day living. My students are ages 6 to 9 in grades 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
My Project
Students will grow their own plants, using the seed starter pods and sustainable seeds, to create an outdoor sensory garden for the outdoor classroom space within our school community. This space will be used to enhance our botany and practical life (cooking, pruning, flower arrangements) curriculum and enhance our global study of creating peaceful environments.
Students will learn about organizing materials (shovels and rakes within a shed) that will be used in creating our outdoor garden and the importance of keeping their outdoor classroom as beautiful as their indoor environment.
The shed, rakes, and shovels will help students build this garden and maintain it throughout the years.
