This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students coming to speech therapy often have difficulty engaging with others. Their challenges make it a struggle for them to communicate basic information including things they like and need. Many of them have autism which makes it important to use multi-sensory approaches to learning. Using these engaging items like I-Spy miniatures and real-life aquarium manipulatives will allow my students to experience vocabulary and language in a hands-on, multi-sensory way. Token boards allow Autistic students to learn the foundations of attention and work completion. These materials will allow students to make connections with literature, themes, and vocabulary which will help them build a strong foundation for communication.

Sensory activities allow students to learn in ways that are engaging and help make connections with tactile, visual, and auditory experiences.
