Help me give my students these sensory items to be able to use for educational purposes but also during their break times and as rewards for doing well academically and behaviorally.
As a special education teacher, in a school for students with significant intellectual disabilities the demographics of my students are very diverse. My students have a wide range in academic, social, and health related needs. All my students have a disability, those disabilities could include: intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional disabilities, behavior disabilities, dual diagnosis, Autism, complex health needs, and complex communication needs.
My current students are in 7th grade ranging in skills academically, physically, behaviorally, and intellectually.
My students are both caring and unique. They enjoy learning by creating, engaging and collaborating. My goal is to give them a safe, loving environment with the appropriate supplies, resources and materials to foster their learning every single day. I want them to come to school knowing they have someone who cares not only about their academic progress, but also their dreams and aspirations, and life outside of school.
My Project
The kinetic sand, ball puzzle, stress balls, sensory string, and water beads will be used during sensory breaks for my special needs students throughout the day. These will also be used for sensory fun Fridays which will occur every Friday for about an hour. These along with the other sensory toys will give my students the needed stimuli to be able to fidget while also focusing in class. These sensory items will also be used to develop and strengthen my students fine motor skills.
The play foam will also be used during sensory breaks and on sensory fun Fridays but will also be used to work on our alphabet, numbers, and shapes.
The play foam will allow my students to work with hands on materials, that stimulate their senses, all while they are learning academically.
