Sensory First

Help me give my students some basic classroom necessities and more sensory items.

My Students

I currently teach a fully self-contained special education class in a Title I elementary school in Hilo, Hawaii. I teach students from as early as kindergarten to fifth grade. My students range in all sorts of disabilities, ranging from genetic disorders, autism, cerebral palsy, other health impairments and intellectually disabled.

In my fully self-contained and medically fragile classroom we try to focus on life skills, healthy life styles and a positive learning environment.

I want my students to be able to reach their highest potential possible.

My Project

I am requesting some materials to add to our private sensory room and some basic classroom supplies.

I am asking for a sensory light tube, an artificial fish tank, and a swing to light up our sensory room.

I am also asking for weights for my students that need to improve their writing skills due to poor fine motor skills. The last thing that I am requesting are large umbrellas. When we take our students off the bus when it rains we need large umbrellas to transport them to the covered side walk. Having these necessary materials will help my students to cope when it gets too overwhelming.
