This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a public pre-k classroom and have 34 children over 2 groups. Our program provides the children an opportunity to develop skills that they will need in the classroom environment before they get to a formal school setting.
My students are energetic and come to school each day ready to learn through creative, hands on experiences.
They love to explore their world through many multi-sensory experiences and always have a lot of questions that they need answered.
We work on answering their questions through teaching them skills such as working in groups, following directions and building relationships.
My Project
We look to provide experiences that involve the use of as many senses as possible so that the children can make meaning of the world in which they live.
Currently, we have individual tubs that we use for sensory experiences but would like a sensory table so that a small group of children can work together on projects.
This will enhance not only their academic learning but the social development as well.
The children enjoy and need sensory experiences to aid their overall development and we would like to enhance this opportunity by being able to develop their social skills at the same time as their academic skills by them learning to negotiate the use of classroom materials.
