My Students

Our school is located at the Jersey Shore and has 565 wonderful students that vary in academic, social, and emotional needs.

We have a large special education population that attends our elementary school.

Two of our other elementary schools, send some of their students here to address the range of special education needs.

Many of our students have sensory needs that would benefit from a room that would allow them to meet those needs with the use of proper equipment.

My Project

We have the space, now it's time to fill it with equipment and materials that allow students at Waysides to seek and explore their sensory needs. By having materials like a swing chair, tents, lighting, calming materials, weighted blankets, bean bag/crash pad and more, students at Wayside will be provided with a therapeutic space to nurture their needs.

A sensory exploration room allows students to have a safe space to foster sensory needs, coping skills, focus and enhance motor skills.

It provides students with a space to with various stimuli to engage their senses in a safe and supportive environment.
