Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I teach in an inclusion setting where my students are typical learning peers, on the spectrum of Autism, or have other specific developmental delays. Throughout the day my students seek sensory input and activities/materials that peak their interests. In order to keep my students regulated emotionally and physically, it is important to have materials to provide sensory input or calming experiences.

My students receive sensory input from building/crashing, squeezing, jumping/stepping, pushing, and popping, just to name a few.

Kinetic sand and molds support squeezing, packing, and touch. Fidget toys and stickers support various inputs for student senses and interests. Magnets provide texture and vibrant colors, feeling the force/pull and stick of the magnets. Stepping stones provide deep gross motor input under the feet and opportunities for jumping. Blocks are a big interest, as my students like stacking and knocking down to get that input from the crashing/falling to the floor.
