Sensory Chair

My students need a chair that they are able to rock and move around in. They spend most of their day in chairs and this chair will allow them to focus and be successful.

My Students

Remember aching backs and the need to move, but teachers expecting you to stay in your seat?

My students are in the 6th and 7th grade; they have emotional behavior disorders.

They are great children who just need people to get them. However, they are often the ones lost in the system. Two of my current students are homeless and struggle with day to day needs being met. Our school is over 60% free and reduced lunch. Our school tries to meet all of our students needs, but that is a big task for a little school district.

My Project

My students would benefit from the chair because it would allow them to sit at their desk, or a place in the room where they can move in their chair. My students will try to move in their normal school chairs by leaning back in them, but this is a safety issue. This chair would help students focus on their class work, or take a break and calm down when they are upset. My students will learn how to move without safety being an issue, they will learn how to have better focus, and they will learn relaxation techniques.

This chair would significantly help my students not only be successful in school, but in life.

It will help teach them calming and relaxation strategies that they could use in real life. It would show them that not only do I care about them, but complete strangers. My students have not seen or witnessed what kind of compassion this site gives.
