My Students

This year, I have an awesome class full of children with many talents. Something they all have in common is their love for music and movement. They like to sing and dance and I have to say, some have better moves than me!

In this class, we build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences.

My students have autism. They view the world in a very different way from the average human being and I think that should be celebrated. They thrive in the classroom when sensory integration is part of every school day. As teachers, we must identify what our students have in common and how we can mold a little bit of that common ground into our school day.

My Project

Throughout the day our students often times need frequent breaks. The work presented can become overwhelming. When you get overwhelmed at work I am sure you take a break. You can walk to the printer or just stop for a second to look away from your computer.

We like to be able to offer our kids a sensory break.

They can rock in a rocking chair, play with play-doh, or a light-up toy. If they need it, they can also go for a quick walk to do a delivery, visit a friend or a preferred staff member in the building.

Even though we do as a school have a good amount of sensory activities for a sensory break for the children we serve, we can always improve and provide the children with even more choices.
