Sensory Brain Breaks

Help me give my students some sensory stimulation that can cause them to be overwhelmed by things you and I never notice such as noises coming from the classroom and hallways even from the noise of other scholars.

My Students

Developmental kindergarten is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or hold a paintbrush.I teach

6-7year-old children with a variety of disabilities such as autism, intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments.

My classroom is an Extensions class, all the students have a disability and they all learn differently. Most students in the class need sensory stimulation throughout day.

My Project

Sensory play is any activity that engages a child’s senses: touch, smell, taste, movemen, balance, sight and hearing. Sensory play will help my scholars with autism calm down, stimulate their senses and develop important skills. Sensory activities facilitate exploration and naturally encourage children to use scientific processes while they play, create, investigate and explore. Having these materials in my classroom such as the lakeshore sensory ball set. When children hold a sensory ball, they appreciate the nubbly texture. When they squeeze one, they can feel the rubber stretch and contract beneath their fingertips. When a child sits on a flex space balance ball seat, they are able to direct their natural kinesthetic energy and need for movement in a positive way, because the child on a ball chair has to constantly move his body on the chair to maintain his balance. The materials will help all the students in my classroom become successful in one or more areas of learning. Students will be able to focus better and learn what they much easier.
