My Students

I teach special education in a large, urban school. Our student population hails from countries all over the world. Many of our families are low income and live below the poverty line. All students in our building receive free breakfast and lunch everyday.

My students work hard to overcome the challenges in their lives.

Despite numerous financial and academic challenges, my students are all loving, caring people who are determined to grow and learn!

My Project

Sensory tools such as fidgets help my students focus better when they may be anxious or nervous about something. The sensory bundles come with a number of items such as spinners and bubble timers to help my students feel more calm and relaxed for learning in all subject areas. Once engaged, my students will be able to use the hands on manipulatives such as the magnetic letters to spell CVC words on our new magnetic easel and sight word rings to build a foundation for literacy. They will also be able to use the pencils and glue sticks to complete paper tasks in both reading and math as a follow-up activity. Lastly, the write and wipe clocks will be able to be used to assist my students during our lessons on time as I will be able to offer immediate feedback to their responses.
