This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located within a urban financially strapped inner city district where there is not any funding to purchase equipment, and the equipment that we have, has seen better days. At this time, we lack adequate choices for our autistic students to actively participate in their integrated classes. This would really level the playing field for them to enjoy with the other students.

My Project

This ball tunnel has been highly recommended by our visiting Occupational Therapist to help our special needs students explore and engage in various much needed simulation. This tunnel is filled with sensory balls that will give our students a sensory-rich experience filled with color, light, and texture through a mix of materials. This tunnel will encourage self-led exploration. The tunnel will be utilized by all of our ASD classes, as well as our PreK and kindergarten students. We have high and low incidence autistic spectrum classes that would greatly benefit from this sensory tunnel. It would help them be more comfortably active in the physical education class.
