With all the new curriculum and ideas that classrooms teach, we are starting the children out younger and younger for the school setting. My students are no different. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) has made a dramatic impact for Preschool. The students in my classroom are like little sponges. They come in each morning with smiles on their faces and are ready to learn something new.
Preschool is the perfect time to engage kiddos in hands-on learning with STEM and sensory play!
Some of our school readiness goals include learning letters, numbers, and self help skills, But we also learn life lessons such as how to be a friend, how to follow procedures, and how to have fun while learning!
My students are very active and love to play They are always on the go-constantly moving while learning. This makes STEM activities a perfect fit for our students.
Many of my students do not have opportunities for hands-on learning outside of school. They need every chance they can get to have meaningful, enriching experiences.
My Project
My students have free choice centers every day. One of their favorite centers is the sand/water table and sensory area. The materials in this project will provide learning experiences for students at these two great centers. Sensory STEM play is important to stimulate student understanding of their senses. Sensory STEM play encourages children's natural curiosity while they play, create, investigate and explore.
The STEM Science Station - Sink or Float and Design & Build Water Blocks will help encourage the children to predict, experiment, and make a hypothesis.
STEM play has become more apparent in the schools at an early age and my classroom is no different. We are also asking for storage to hold our items to help us enjoy on a different day.
Students will enjoy scooping the sensory beads and sand, baking with STEM learning, and using extreme sand to predict if it will stick or not. These materials are sure to make the sensory STEM learning experience even better!
