My class is made up of 8 incredible third, fourth, and fifth graders who love to explore, create and learn. My goal is to build a safe, positive and nurturing learning environment where my students feel confident to try new things both academically and socially. Our classroom is centered around structured routines that help foster academic, social and emotional growth.
My diverse learners thrive when participating in multi-sensory instruction and truly benefit from sensory activities throughout the school day.
We love to learn, make new friends and collaborate with peers.
My Project
Research shows that engaging in sensory activities throughout the day increases attention, participation, retention and helps improve self-regulation. My students are most successful and more engaged when they participate in a sensory activity before instruction. These materials will help my students get their bodies and brains ready to learn.
Not only will these materials help my students who struggle with sensory integration, but we can also use these materials to help increase socialization with peers.
My class participates with grade level peers each week during a social skills period. Using items such as the Alpha-Bots, magnetic shapes and Number-Bots allows my students to use materials they are comfortable with while making new friends. In addition, the building component to these materials allows for students to collaborate, problem solve and communicate with one another.
