Help me give my students a sensory center to expand their educational experience. Students with special needs would benefit from the sand and water tables by varying their sensory input.
If you step into our Life Skills room you won’t hear our kids use the word can't. I teach in a special needs class of eight students. My school is such a loving environment where our students come from diverse backgrounds but act as one big family.
Our students' abilities range from medium to low gross motor skills.
In our class our students learn more than reading and math. We focus on Life Skills as a whole. Our students' skill levels vary. Focusing on the skills they need when they step out of the classroom helps them become more independent, and builds their confidence.
My Project
Our special needs students would benefit from a dedicated sensory center. We have chosen a variety of sensory items to stimulate all of the five senses.
The area would help provide sensory input to our students which helps them regulate their emotions, expand their learning, and teach them about external stimuli.
The chewing and vibro-sensory devices help students that require oral stimulation to be able to focus while the color and light-up devices help create a visual stimulus. Weighted blankets, and relaxation pods help our students redirect their emotions or regain control when they are upset.
