Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
From kindergarten to fifth grade, my students ages and capabilities vary as they have mild to moderate autism or similar disabilities. My students are eager to learn and express themselves.
All of my students are energetic, inquisitive, and expressive!
Their excitement for life is contagious and they explore the world around them with never-ending curiosity. I teach at a Title One school and more than half of our students live below the poverty line. Every one of my students is a unique individual that deserves a classroom environment where they feel safe and comfortable.
My Project
My classroom is filled with students from kindergarten to fifth grade who have autism or similar disabilities.
Throughout the school day, my students often become overwhelmed and they struggle to verbalize their emotions to their peers or to their teachers.
With the Light Table and Sensory Materials, Giant Sight & Sound Tubes, Tilt & Turn Liquid Sensory Windows, Mystery Box, and Swirling Glitter Sensory Balls my students will be able to take a break when they are overwhelmed and explore different sensory items that appeal to their unique senses of touch, sound, and sight. With the Super Safe Paper Center, my students will be able to safely cut the perfect size piece of paper for their drawing or painting. The Washable Tempera Paints (in traditional, super bright, and glitter colors) will offer my students plenty of paint options to choose from as they let their imagination run wild. The Crinkle-Cut Craft Scissors, Art Tissue Paper, Bright Giant Washable Color Ink Pads, and Lakeshore Design Rollers will allow my students to create projects with fun designs and textures. The Wiggly Eyes, Pipe Stems, Peal and Stick Foam Shapes, and colorful feathers will help my students create projects and faces that express their feelings.
The materials in this project will benefit my students because they will offer them the opportunity to clam down when they feel overwhelmed and create a visual representation of their thoughts and feelings.
