Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Developmental Disabilities and Autism often require specialized instruction that takes a student away from the regular classroom and regular curriculum. Our goal is my classroom is a temporary self contained setting while we find the tools and strategies the student needs to be successful with regular education students and in the regular curriculum.

My hope is to collect enough tools that when a student moves out they can take the tools with them and not leave our classroom without.

With the right tools, they can reach for the stars.

My Project

My students are all identified as a young child with developmental delay and most have a medical diagnosis of Autism. They have many sensory needs and most require lots of movement and deep pressure. Once these needs are met they are able to learn and maintain the skills we teach them. It allows them to focus on general education curriculum and to have improved behaviors allowing them to have access to the regular education peers in social activities such as lunch, recess or center time. My goal is finding the tools that work the best for each student and give them the skills to move on to a less restrictive environment.
