Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a special education teacher, I am always looking for ways to adapt the classroom environment to better suit my students' needs and desires. The students that I serve and support have needs and challenges that can often be made inconsequential when given the right tools. Unfortunately, I don't have those tools at this point, which is hopefully where you come in.

With the supplies granted to my students by you, incredible donor, my students will get to fully engage in the general education setting in ways they were never able to before; they will be able to participate in class, make friends, learn, and grow into the next generation of incredible humans that they are and should be able to be.

The crash pad is a way for some of my students to get out a buildup of energy in their bodies that is otherwise satiated through eloping. Having access to this would ease so much of their desire to run and would help me keep my students safer. I also added items for our calming corner because I think every student deserves a space to take a breath. Other than that, these tools will be used almost entirely in the general education setting, helping students succeed beyond anything ever imagined.

I see it now, the motor zone in my classroom, the crash pad in the corner, and gym mat next to it. I can see my students jumping happily into it. I can imagine my students in their classrooms sitting quietly on a cushion next to their best friend in class, looking up at their teacher with curiosity in their eyes. I can picture a student reading in the calming corner, holding the weighted stuffy that brings them joy. It looks beautiful.

I can see it, can you?
