Sensory and Manipulative Learning

Help me give my students a wide variety of sensory and fine motor toys. Sensory toys such as the floor tiles, sensory table with a variety of different texture beads and manipulatives to help develop fine motors skills.

My Students

I am a teacher in a substantially separate classroom with a total of 9 students ranging from ages 3-5 years old.

My students are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as additional disabilities.

My students are located in a low come area and it is often difficult to get the materials needed for the students to be successful and to meet there individual needs.

Many of my students are non-verbal and have difficulty expressing their wants and needs and require hands-on support throughout the day.

My Project

Many children with Autism have difficulty with communication, social interaction and engage in repetitive behaviors. Many student in my classroom have difficulty with sensory input, also known as SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder).

The majority of my students this year have sensory processing disorder, which effects them in many developmental areas such as language delay, fine and gross motor delay, sensory aversions, and daily functioning skills.

Having a wide selection of hands-on sensory materials donated to my classroom as well as Sensory integration therapy have been known to help these challenges and minimize the symptoms they struggle with daily to be successful in their school environment.
