Many children with Autism have difficulty with communication, social interaction and engage in repetitive behaviors. Many student in my classroom have difficulty with sensory input, also known as SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder). The majority of my students this year have sensory processing disorder, which effects them in many developmental areas such as language delay, fine and gross motor delay, sensory aversions, and daily functioning skills. Having a wide selection of hands-on sensory materials donated to my classroom as well as Sensory integration therapy have been known to help these challenges and minimize the symptoms they struggle with daily to be successful in their school environment.
