My Students
My students are at home with their families. They are all safe and doing their best, but my challenge is having materials that I can share with them. My students are preschool students who come to see me for individualized support as they all have Autism. My students are non-verbal so we focus a lot with families on communication, self-regulation and pre-academic skills.
I am doing my best to create materials at home, but I cannot access my classroom and am limited to what I have in my own home.
My Project
My preschoolers continue to need and love sensory input! The school closures have made it difficult for families as my students cannot access manipulatives and materials in class or at the parks or favorite locations. We are using a lot of materials and methods with families to support our students at home.
We focus a lot on materials that the students can manipulate that provide sensory feedback while increasing other important skills such as creative play, counting, engagement with peers (or parents while we are staying home), and emotional regulation.
