My Project

My student population that I work with are low level cognitive based and have many behaviors that impact their education. These students are responsive to sensory rewards and I am seeking items that stimulate their hand-eye coordination and create a comfortable environment in which to enjoy this variety of reinforcement stimuli.. These items will be used for sensory breaks after a work is complete. I find students who are all non-verbal in my classroom only desired rewards are breaks and edibles. They will not work for anything else. All my students are on a set schedule to follow but when they finish their work and want break, they choose treadmill walking or break in the sensory of lying down. These items will give them reward of having it feel safe and comfortable. Some of the items listed is also for adaptive physical education. My students can only walk so far behavior an episode starts. Having this exercise bike in the classroom, along with the treadmill that I received on facebook marketplace already has improved behaviors and encourage students to enjoy working out. Having these items will benefit the students in the classroom with their sensory needs, social emotional learning, and overall academic learning success because it gives them access to the rewards they like. It is difficult as a teacher to work with students who are non-verbal and have to communicate with them on a daily basis. Covid has impacted my students ability to access sports utilities and these items will help mitigate that.
