Sensory Activities To Motivate

My students need a Scents Sort Match-Up Kit, 5 Hot Dot Pens, and a set of Hot Dot Beginning Phonics Cards to keep them engaged and excited about learning.

My Students

Hi! I have the most wonderful classroom of 5 students who have Autism. They love playing multi-sensory games, that allow them to use their senses. The Scents Sort Match-Up kit will be new and fun for my students. The interactive Hot Dots Jr. pens and Hot Dots Jr Activity Cards will allow my students the opportunity to stay engaged while learning.

My students are in the 4th, 5th and 6th grade at a regular education school.

They spend a significant part of their school day in my resource room, because they exhibit some aggressive behaviors at times. They all have Autism and are working on becoming better communicators and contributing members of their school and community. I am so proud of them. They love new activities, games, and experiences and I do my best to provide them with new opportunities. I know that they will enjoy and benefit from the "hot pens" andt he Scents Sort Match-Up kit. They will keep them engaged and help them to have fun while learning. I will do anything for these boys. Even the smallest new activity brightens all of our days. Thank you for considering our first attempt at Donorschoose.org. We are already grateful for this opportunity.

My Project

My students love to play games and engage in interactive lessons. We often use games that incorporate using our senses. The sense of smell game is a unique game that is sure to be a hit with my class. While playing games, we incorporate numerous opportunities for communication to occur. 4 out of my 5 students use augmentative communication devices to talk. They are motivated to communicate when engaged in fun activities, including games. Using the "hot pens" will provide my students with immediate gratification as the pen will highlight their correct answers, keeping them interested and engaged in a phonics lesson. Finding new and fun activities for my students to keep my classroom inviting and exciting is a challenge. I have come to terms that I need help financially to continue to keep this trend going. Spending my own money has sure put a hole in my pocket. I am hoping that Donors Choose can help lessen my financial load.

My request is not too fancy, but it's those little things in life that keep us going.

My classroom gets excited about the simple things in life and I know that these items will provide us with great learning opportunities about using our sense of smell, providing communicative exchanges and helping to make learning fun. This project, a first for me, is small, simple, but will have a great effect on my students and staff. We get excited about seeing our students enjoy new lessons and materials.
