Help me give my students a calm corner/sensory area with weighted stuffed animals and a rug that will benefit their needs when they are overwhelmed and need a sensory break.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year, our Pre-K classroom went from a general education classroom to a blended classroom. While we are excited to have diverse learners and general education learners come together, I realized my classroom needed an area where both types of learners needed an area to take a break from all that is happening. We tried having a small corner with just a soft arm chair, but the children needed more. We need a soft area with different types of tools to help ease the anxiety of the school day and the pressures our youngest learners feel. Tools such as fidgets, weighted stuff animals, soft carpet, posters to help identify feelings, and pillows.
By donating to this project, you will provide a safe, calming area for the children to take a break from the pressures they feel at school with the tools to help.
My students, both types of learners, will be able to vocalize their feelings. They will be able to identify different ways to navigate those feelings and use different tools, such as the weighted animals and fidgets, to help find healthy ways to deal with those feelings.
