My Students
Our 5th grade students represent a wide range of abilities, including many English language learners and students with disabilities, all of whom come to school each day eager to learn new things that will allow them to grow both personally and academically.
My students are inquisitive, energetic, and engaged learners, and my colleagues and I work hard to create a responsive and supportive classroom community that ensures their interests and needs are met.
Working across two inclusion classrooms, my colleagues and I try to incorporate a range of teaching styles, materials, and technologies that allow many and varied opportunities for student exploration. Providing appropriate tools and supports for interactive learning activities gives an important boost to our students' confidence and ability to be successful.
My Project
Our classroom is a vibrant learning environment where students regularly engage in project-based work and discussion. While all students enjoy group work, there are always a few who prefer a slightly quieter work space. In addition, students with auditory processing or sensory issues benefit from having a sound buffer to help them effectively engage in group work.
Being able to quickly provide a quiet "work space" within the larger classroom can make a huge difference when it comes to student success.
Being able to put on a pair of noise-reducing headphones or use earbuds when working on computers are choices that will help students stay focused and engaged. Combined with "renewed" bean bag chairs, students will have all they need to create a "sensible sensory solution" on the fly.
